Στον οδηγό "Εγκατάσταση codec (ήχος,εικόνα,κτλ) σε 8.04" γίνετε και εγκατάσταση των αποθετηρίων του medibuntu.
Οπότε μετά τον οδηγό θα μπορεί να γίνει και η εγκατάσταση του skype και του Google Earth απο το synaptic...

Να προσθέσω ότι ένα πράγμα που γίνεται συχνά, είναι να μπαίνουν πολλά πακέτα από τα restricted, με αποτέλεσμα η εγκατάσταση να αλλάζει πραγματικά πρόσωπο.
Ένα τέτοιο προβληματικό πακέτο είναι το ubuntu-restricted-extras. Με την εγκατάστασή του μπαίνουν πακέτα όπως μικροσοφτικές γραμματοσειρές, και δεν υπάρχει δυνατότητα να τις βγάλεις μετά. Βάζοντας τέτοια πακέτα κάνουν τη διανομή να γίνεται μη υποστηριζόμενη (από τη πλευρά μου). Θα τα γράψω αυτά και στη συζήτηση αυτή.

Search for ubuntu-restricted-extras and install it. Note that there is also xubuntu-restricted-extras and kubuntu-restricted-extras.

Or open the Terminal, and execute the following command:
