Bug: Legal notice cannot be localized.
When opening the "About this computer" menu, the "Searching in the dash - Legal notice" text appears. This text is displayed in English even if the envirnoment is set to be displayed in another language (eg Greek in my case). With the help of also some other fellow translators i searched for this piece of document so that we would translate it, but the search came up empty.
We 've reached to the conclusion that the legal notice is not translatable due to the sensitive nature of legal matters that may require a professional legalist for its translation. That is perfectly understandable.
However, displaying a legal text in English to someone that can't read English at all, does not make a lot of sense, it would be the same as displaying a legal text in Greek to all English speaking users (just imagine that!). So, this is something that should be fixed in some way.
Baring in mind that a simple volunteer translator may not be fit for this job, i can think of some solutions, though there may be other ideas too:
1. Canonical itself can handle the localization of the Legal Notice, at leat for those languages that present a high percentage of Ubuntu translations completion.
2. Members of the LoCo teams could present this text to an official translation public service and send back the translated text to Canonical for inclusion. That raises some matters though, as we can't control how some Ubuntu specific terms (such as "the Dash") would be translated. It also raises the question as how we can authenticate this official translation (any suggestions on that?). One other thing, is that this service would require some expense (altough it is not very expensive).
3. Add a translatable header to the Legal Notice indicating that "Due to the sensitive nature of legal matters and differences in laws through states, we can only present the Legal Notice about searching in the dash in the English language", so at least users without the ablility to read English know what is that thing that they cannot read.
4. Do not display the Legal Notice at all when the envirnoment is set to be displayed in a language other than English.
5. Trust your translator teams.
Any other suggestion would be welcome too.
