Πρόβλημα με grub και απορίες για παλιούς πυρήνες

Καταρχάς έχω στο netbook της υπογραφής, στον ίδιο σκληρό σε διαφορετικά partition Backtrack και Ubuntu. Στο grub εμφανίζεται πρώτα το backtrack και μετά το ubuntu και θέλω να το αλλάξω. Πριν με κατηγορήσετε ότι δεν έψαξα στο forum να αναφέρω ότι άλλαξα στο αρχείο /etc/default/grub το default από 0 σε 4-6 για σιγουριά αλλά δεν έγινε κάποια αλλαγή. Στην απορία τώρα. Θέλω να αφαιρέσω παλαιότερους πυρήνες. Ξεκινάω δίνοντας την εντολή uname -r

Μετά πηγαίνω στο synaptic package manager και γράφω στο search 2.6.38 για να σβήσω τους παλαιότερους πυρήνες όμως μου εμφανίζονται και 2.6.38-10 και 2.6.38-11. Γιατί εγώ έχω την παλαιά έκδοση? Έχω καταλάβει κάτι λάθος πάνω στο θέμα?

Προφανώς για να έχεις παλιά έκδοση πυρήνα δεν αναβαθμίστηκε ποτέ, αν κι αυτό μου φαίνεται κάπως περίεργο, γιατί κανονικά το σύστημα σε παροτρύνει τακτικά να κάνεις αναβαθμίσεις.

αλλά κάνει ώρες, βλέπω και κάτι errors. Θα ενημερώσω όταν επιτέλους τελειώσει. Να αναφέρω πως στο startup-manager έγραφε 2.6.38-11 ενώ στο grub όπως είπα παραπάνω εμφανίζει 2.6.38-8. Επιτέλους τελείωσε

Μάλλον χάθηκε η σύνδεση.
Ξαναδώσε τις εντολές μια-μια αλλά δώσε ολόκληρο το αποτέλεσμα:
