[ΕΠΙΛΥΘΗΚΕ] - Πρόβλημα ανάλυσης με την Viewsonic G90f+

Γεια σας
Έχω στον υπολογιστή μου την οθόνη CRT ViewSonic G90f+, 19 ιντσών και κάρτα γραφικών την nvidia FX5200.
Το πρόβλημα, που το έχω πάντα και με όλες τις διανομές, είναι με τις αναλύσεις και την συχνότητα της οθόνης. Μου δίνει μέγιστη ανάλυση 640Χ480 στα 50 Hz.
Drivers της κάρτας έχω εγκαταστήσει αλλά δεν νομίζω ότι είναι εκεί το πρόβλημα.
Σε κάθε διανομή πάντα έβρισκα κάποιο τρόπο να το διορθώσω όπως π.χ. μέχρι και το ubuntu 8.04 όπου υπήρχε το screen and graphics και "δήλωνα" τι οθόνη έχω. Ακόμα και εκεί όμως μου δημιουργούσε προβλήματα όπως για παράδειγμα αν έβαζα ανάλυση μεγαλύτερη από 1280χ1024 έβλεπα μέρος τις επιφάνειας και το υπόλοιπο το έβλεπα σέρνοντας το ποντίκι. Στο νέο όμως ubuntu/kubuntu 8.10 δεν υπάρχει ούτε αυτή η επιλογή. Δοκίμασα από το nvidia-settings να βάλω μία δικιά μου ανάλυση (από την μέγιστη 640χ480 που έδινε) και μου έκανε πάλι το παραπάνω (δλδ έβλεπα ένα μέρος τις επιφάνειας).
Ξέρετε τι μπορώ να κάνω ώστε να λύσω και οριστικά αυτό το πρόβλημα που κοντεύει να με αποθαρρύνει από τη χρήση του linux?

Ξέρω ότι για την οθόνη που έχω ισχύει:

2048 x 1536 @ 60 Hz

1792 x 1344 @ 68 Hz

1600 x 1200 @ 76 Hz

1280 x 1024 @ 88 Hz

1024 x 768 @ 117 Hz

καθώς και:

Fh: 30-97 kHz, Fv: 50-180 Hz

Με το αρχείο xorg.conf δεν μπόρεσα να βγάλω άκρη.

Κάνε ρεστάρτ και κάνε την επιλογή recovery mode όταν σου βγάλε κάποιες επιλογές διάλεξε το Fix X server
Εάν δεν θα γίνει ακολουθείς τις οδηγίες που έδωσε ο @gourgi , και πες εάν είναι οκ η όχι .

η vga δεν καθοριζει και την αναλυση?δεν πα να εχεις και FULL HD, με την FX 5200 σε 19(αν ειναι wide) θασαι τυχερος αμα πιασεις 1440χ900

Χμ... δύσκολα μου βάζεται για το επίπεδό μου...
Αυτό που μου είπε ο linuxman το έκανα αλλά δεν άλλαξε τίποτα (απλά απενεργοποιήθηκε ο driver της κάρτας γραφικών).
Τώρα από το να πειράζω το αρχείο xorg.conf δεν μπορώ να πω ότι έχω κάποια εμπειρία.

Επισημαίνω ότι γενικός είμαι ένας απλός χρήστης linux και δεν έχω πολύ εμπειρια από τέτοιες ρυθμίσεις. Α... και τα αγγλικά μου είναι για τα κλάματα.

Κάνε ρεστάρτ τον Η/Υ θα πρέπει να είσαι οκ τώρα .
Μετά θα εγκαταστήσεις μέσα από το Synaptic nvidia-settings και εκτελείς από το τερματικό

Και θα δείς εάν έχεις τώρα την επιλογή για μεγαλύτερη ανάλυση η όχι και τα Hz το λογικό είναι το 60 , έχει apply + save to xorg.conf εκεί πατάς apply και εάν είναι οκ save .

Λίγο "φτωχό" δεν είναι;

όσο πιο φτωχό είναι το xorg σου τόσο καλύτερα, όταν κάτι δεν παίζει και πρέπει να βάλεις το χέρι σου τότε πρέπει να προβληματίζεσαι
η πολιτική του Xorg άλλαξε σιγά σιγά από το Hardy και τώρα τα πράγματα είναι κάπως έτσι:

Then came Linux distributions which provided install scripts that (most of the time) created a basic configuration file for the user, that they could then customize. Today, we are transitioning towards a "config-less" X, that figures out everything those install scripts used to, but all inside X itself.
