Αποτυχία εκκίνησης gnome - Ubuntu server 10.04

Προσπαθώ να δώσω "sudo gdm" και παίρνω το εξής error:

Ποια έκδοση του Ubuntu έχεις ;
Γράψε λίγο πιο αναλυτικά ποιο είναι το πρόβλημα και τι θες να κάνεις για να καταλάβουμε καλύτερα.

Έχω ubuntu server 10.04

Το πρόβλημά μου είναι ότι το γραφικό περιβάλλον δεν ξεκινάει κατα την εκκίνηση του υπολογιστή... απλά βλέπω ένα terminal!
Προσπαθώ να το ξεκινήσω χειροκίνητα με "sudo gdm" αλλά παίρνω το παραπάνω error!

ή εναλλακτικά, επέλεξε το κείμενο με το ποντίκι και πάτα το 9ο κουμπάκι με τα <>, πάνω από το πεδίο που γράφεις την απάντησή σου.

Δεν έχω χρησιμοποιήσει, οπότε δεν μιλάω εκ πείρας, αλλά έχω την εντύπωση πως οι server editions έρχονται χωρίς GUI.

Έκανες εγκατάσταση το Gnome και τώρα δεν μπορείς να το τρέξεις; Αν ναι, πως έκανες την εγκατάσταση;
Αν θες δώσε πληροφορίες όπως για παράδειγμα: λειτουργούσε πιο πριν το Gnome και τώρα εμφανίστηκε το πρόβλημα ή είναι έτσι από την εγκατάσταση;

Όντος το ubuntu server δεν έρχονται με γραφικό περιβάλλον αλλά το είχα εγκαταστήσει με τη εντολή:

sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop


Δηλαδή το γραφικό περιβάλλον χωρίς κάποια extra που μου ήταν άχρηστα.

Εδώ θέλω να πω ότι ο server βρίσκετε σε Γερμανικό datacenter.

Το gnome λειτουργούσε μια χαρά έως ότου μια μέρα σταμάτησαν να λειτουργούν κάποιες υπηρεσίες (ssh, ftp, η ιστοσελίδα έδινε "internal error" κ.τ.λ) και το κάναμε restart και δεν επανήλθε!
Η απάντηση που λάβαμε από το data center είναι η παρακάτω:
this server does not come up, it gets a kernel panic after 'run-init'

Για να μην τα πολυλογώ το πρόβλημα διορθώθηκε κάνοντας ένα link από τον φάκελο /lib64 στον φάκελο /lib (φαίνεται κάτι είχε πειραχτεί στον /lib64)

Έψαξα και εγώ το αρχείο "/var/log/xorg.0.log" αλλά είναι άδειο!

Έψαξα και εγώ το αρχείο "/var/log/xorg.0.log" αλλά είναι άδειο!

Mήπως θέλει κεφαλαίο X στο xorg (Xorg.0.log); Γιατί σε μένα έτσι είναι.

Καλού κακού για να δούμε τα logs αρχεία στον φάκελο, δώσε στο τερματικό:
